Mixed communities at risk as a result of Con-Dem spending cuts

Rare example of affordable
housing within Horsham

By David Hide

The thing that has clearly come out of the Con-Dem government's spending review is the demonstration of ideological differences displayed by the coalition in respect of housing policy to that of both the previous Labour government and the Labour party here in Horsham.

Student Fees

Following the government's decision to raise student fees by up to a factor of three, despite personal pledges to the contrary by the Lib Dem members of the coalition there has been massive outcry, culminating in a demonstration in London.

Many parents, students and teachers in Horsham have been variously concerned and angry about this and this week's County Times contains several pages of local reactions to the news.

Ireland's economic miracle - now coming to the UK

Ireland's current economic problems are all over the news at the moment but, unlike most economic experts and the population of Ireland, one person over here thinks the Irish government's strategy is one to be admired and copied....

...unfortunately that person is the UK's 'Chancer of the Exchequer' George Osborne

20% VAT

There is a lot we could say about the Chancer of the Exchequer raising VAT to 20%, but since a picture is worth a thousand words, we can save space by just showing a couple of pictures:

Before the election the Tories insisted Labour would raise VAT, with the implication that they wouldn't. The Lib Dems said that the Tories would raise VAT, with the implication that they wouldn't. In both cases, the further implication was that raising VAT would be a bad thing and that you should vote for them to stop such a thing happening.

It is a safe bet that we will be reminding everybody about these examples of the ConDems saying anything to get elected nearer to next year's local council elections.
