Patrick is probably best known for playing the part of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation on television and in films, and for starring in the X-Men films as Professor Xavier. Less well-known is his staunch support for the Labour party.
Patricks's message in Crawley, which applies equally in Horsham was:
There is a world of difference between Labour and David Cameron's Tories. They will cut the tax credits that families rely on. And the Tories want to make cuts now, putting the recovery at risk. A huge mistake.

It was a real pleasure to meet Patrick Stewart at last. I did queue at the stage door after seeing his amazing one-man performance of A Christmas Carol in 1993, but the crowds were too large at that time. Quite apart from those personal reasons, it was great to see somebody of his stature who has not forgotten his roots or left his ideals behind and is so keen to promote the party that he feels is the best for the country.
