Proud to Support the Postal Workers

Members from Horsham Labour Party joined striking postal workers on the picket line last Friday morning to show their support for postal workers and fellow trade unionists.

Horsham Labour Party supports a fully publicly-owned postal service, and at this year's party conference our delegate voted in favour of the emergency resolution about protecting the Royal Mail pension fund.

Horsham Labour Party Chair, Secretary and Campaign coordinator all joined the picket line outside the Horsham depot.

Secretary Ray Chapman commented
You hear so much misinformation in the press, it was great to hear first hand, what the postal workers reasons for striking were.
We learnt from CWU members that modernisation is not the issue, postal workers want to; retain job opportunities for local people (the postal service employs more than 150 full-time staff at the Hurst Road Depot) wish to remain working for a fully publicly owned mail service, and ensure that for the price of a stamp, customers receive a first class nationwide service.

David Hide Chair of Horsham Labour Party said
We learnt that the local MP Francis Maude has visited the depot at Christmas. I am sure the striking postal workers would be pleased to see their MP down on the picket line also pledging his support for a fully publicly owned Royal Mail
In the meantime members of the CWU are left to ponder which one of his many homes will the local MP wish to have his Christmas mail posted to.
